Complete user guide

Everything WallyMate.
One clear guide.

From planning at home to finding your way on Lake Wallenpaupack, this is the practical guide to the map, Wally, saved spots, navigation, Friends, Pro tools, and account settings.

First launch

Getting started

Create an account once and your saved spots, Friends, boat profile, and Pro access follow that account across supported devices.

1

Create or sign in

Use an email address you can access. Choose the same WallyMate account when moving between iPhone, Android, and the web app.

2

Allow location

Location powers mode detection, the blue dot, distances, nearby places, navigation, anchor alarm, trips, and optional Friends sharing.

3

Take the short tour

The onboarding screens introduce the map, Wally, Pro tools, and Friends when the feature is available for your app version.

4

Use the profile

Tap the person icon at the top right to set your name and boat, manage your subscription, contact support, or sign out.

Location awareness

Map modes that match where you are

🗺️

Planning Mode

For users away from Lake Wallenpaupack. Explore the full map, weather, places, saved spots, and Wally without pretending you are navigating on the lake.

📍

Nearby

You are close to the lake but outside the current on-lake area. Distances and nearby places are available, but live lake navigation remains limited.

🌊

On the lake

Your GPS fix falls inside WallyMate's lake area. Live map movement and lake navigation tools become available.

WallyMate is supplemental. It is not a certified marine chart, emergency service, or substitute for safe boating, posted markers, weather awareness, and operator judgment.
Explore the area

Find places, services & answers

The map includes lake and nearby-area points of interest. Wally also uses that local information when answering questions.

Category filters

Use All, Marinas, Launches, Restaurants, Friends, and other filter chips to control which markers appear. All shows every eligible layer.

Search

Tap search to find a point of interest or address. Select a result to open details and move the map to it.

Near me

Open the nearby list to compare places by distance from the available location. Tap a result for details.

Place details

Tap a marker to see its description and available actions. Hours, menus, availability, and conditions can change—confirm with the business when it matters.

Your lake notebook

Save the places you care about

📌

Create a spot

Drop a pin from the map, give it a name, and add optional notes for a fishing hole, swimming cove, anchorage, or meeting point.

🧭

Return to it

Open Spots, choose a saved place, and show it on the map. When on the lake, use its navigation action.

2

Free

Keep up to two saved spots.

Pro

Save unlimited spots.

Local lake intelligence

Ask Wally

Use the Wally tab for natural-language questions about Lake Wallenpaupack, nearby places, boating, fishing, current weather context, and trip planning.

Try asking

“Where can I get fuel?”
“Where should I fish this morning?”
“Find a nearby place for ice cream.”

Open a result

When Wally references a mapped place, tap the linked location to view it on the map.

Check important details

AI answers can be incomplete or wrong. Confirm safety, regulations, hours, prices, and availability with an authoritative source.

Free accounts receive 3 Wally messages per day. Pro accounts receive 50 per day. Use the small report control on an answer if something looks wrong.
Community awareness

Temporary lake reports

Report debris, shallow water, heavy traffic, rough conditions, or another temporary hazard. Reports appear for other boaters and expire automatically.

Reports are community-submitted. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, or no longer current. For an emergency, contact 911 or the proper on-water authority.
Your trusted lake crew

Add friends and share only when you choose

Friends does not use background location. To send current updates, the sharing person must leave WallyMate open and visible. When the phone locks or the app is backgrounded, the last successful position stops refreshing and begins aging.

👥

Connect with a WALLY code

Send a request, accept it, and control location sharing separately with the Friends switch.

🌫️

Foreground-only freshness

Locations are solid for about 10 minutes, fade for up to 70 minutes, and then disappear.

Pro from anywhere

Free viewers see friend locations while on-lake. Pro members can check the lake from Planning Mode too.

🔒

Block and report

Remove access, prevent future requests, and privately report an account from friend details.

Use it this way: turn sharing on, keep WallyMate open while you want friends to receive fresh positions, then turn sharing off when you are done. A marker is solid for about 10 minutes, fades until about 70 minutes, and then disappears. Treat every friend marker as a last known phone position—not an emergency tracker.
More lake-day tools

How Pro tools work

Anchor alarm

Use this only after WallyMate recognizes you on or near the lake and has a current location.

  1. Anchor the boat and keep the phone aboard.
  2. Tap the anchor button on the map.
  3. Choose a drift radius from 25 to 300 feet and set the alarm.
  4. Allow notifications if prompted, keep WallyMate open on screen, and keep the phone powered and audible.
  5. Tap the active anchor button to turn the alarm off before leaving.
Keep the app and screen open. The alarm checks your current foreground location roughly every five seconds. If the phone locks, WallyMate is backgrounded or closed, GPS stops, the battery dies, or the device leaves the boat, monitoring and alerts may not work. It is a convenience aid—not an unattended safety alarm.
🗺️

Trip recording

Trip Recording builds a route from the foreground GPS positions received while the app is active.

  1. Wait for an on-lake location and blue dot.
  2. Tap Record trip on the map.
  3. Leave WallyMate open while underway; the route is sampled about every five seconds.
  4. Tap the timer when finished.
  5. Review distance, duration, top speed, and average speed, then Save, Share, or Discard.
Keep WallyMate open for the whole trip. Locking the phone, switching apps, force-closing, or losing GPS can pause updates or leave gaps. Very short recordings with fewer than two usable points cannot be saved.

Choose specialty boat icons and finishes that friends on current app versions see on the map.

Tap the large boat row at the top of Profile, add an optional boat name, and select a type.

2

Choose a style

Core boats and solid colors are included for everyone. Pro adds specialty boats and premium finishes; Free users can preview locked choices.

3

Save it

Accepted friends on WallyMate 2.1 or later see your saved type and style when your location is eligible.

Manage Subscription

WallyMate opens the management destination associated with the purchase when available, with the correct Apple, Google Play, or web fallback.

Restore Purchase

On a native device, use Restore Purchase if an eligible App Store or Google Play purchase is not reflected after signing in.

Delete Account

Use the in-app deletion control or follow the website instructions. Deleting WallyMate data does not automatically cancel a store subscription.

Blocked users

Review blocked accounts and unblock someone if you want to allow future friend requests again.

Quick fixes

If something doesn't look right

The app says GPS lost or Nearby unexpectedly.

Keep WallyMate open briefly, confirm precise location permission and Location Services are on, then tap the location button. The app automatically retries transient location timeouts. A shoreline point can also fall just outside the current on-lake area.

The blue dot is missing.

Check location permission, precise location, Location Services, and network access. Planning Mode intentionally does not behave like live on-lake navigation.

A place, saved spot, or friend is not visible.

Return to All, choose the matching filter, and recenter the map. For Friends, also check sharing, accepted status, freshness, viewer eligibility, and app version.

Pro access is missing.

Confirm you are signed into the WallyMate account used for purchase, reopen the profile, and try Restore Purchase on the purchasing platform.

I still need help.

Use Profile → Contact us or email wallymateapp@gmail.com. Include your device type, what you tapped, approximate time, and a screenshot if possible.
